Alex has been sailing fireflies since he left university and wanted a cheap boat he could also team race. He sailed at Rickmansworth SC and London Corinthian YC whilst in London, and is now a member of Royal Harwich YC in Suffolk.
Membership Secretary
Roger Hudson
Technical Secretary
Mark Tait
Mark is the man to contact if you have any questions about your Firefly!
Publicity
Jo Mason
Jo is in charge of publicity. Think of her as Max(ine) Clifford of the NFA. She has been crewing in fireflies since 2004. Greatest achievement: Surviving crews' union and the racing the next day Grossest underachievement: Never been nominated for Duckhams!
Website Coordinator
Jonquil Brookes
Jonquil is responsible for eCommunication and has been sailing Fireflies since 1993
Greatest achievement: Sailing with the same helm for 14 years, before migrating to a new one, and inventing the ‘Rango' (Rum and Lemon Tango) drink at LLandudno 2000 Nationals.
Grossest under-achievement: 4 transatlantic flights pre-. mid- and post-Torquay 2008 Nationals, resulting in minimal crewing participation (she did carbon-offset).
Sails
Will Mason
Will sells sails! If you need a new suit of sails the cheapest way is from the NFA and if you are an NFA member you get even more discount!
He has been sailing Fireflies since 1995 and has owned 2 Fireflies. Not many great achievements on the water but a lot of fun over the years. He is not going to list his Duckham wins here!
Northern Area Representative
Marion Armstrong
Greatest achievement: managing to sail a Firefly and stay upright.
Greatest underchievement: must be producing children who also sail Fireflies and drink far too much.
Student Representative
Ali Currey
Ali is responsible for recruiting students and making sure they have a great time!
She has crewed in the past 3 Firefly Nationals and Team Races Fireflies at Exeter University. She currently sails a 470.
Greatest achievement: 2nd in the 2008 Nationals at Torquay
Grossest under-achievement (aka Duckham's nomination): she has yet to be nominated for Duckhams!!!
Bulletin Editor
Rupert Whelan
Rupert was stuffed in the front end of a Firefly when he was 9, and so far has only managed to crawl to the back, where he dreams of one day being good enough to be on the same leg of the course as the winner of a Nationals race. He is happiest sailing in no wind on puddles or rivers, and finds wind and waves very scary.
Greatest Achievement: 2 consecutive years of drinking 100 pints at a Firefly Nationals, way back in the mists of time.
Greatest Under Achievement: Managing not much more than a tenth of that at the 2009 Nationals, and still being hung over after the Pimms night.
