The National Firefly Association provides Firefly owners with a full calendar of events each year. There are two main championships, the National Championships (Torbay in July/August 2013) and the South Western Championships (held in Restronguet this year in late May), In addition there are 2 main series: The Vines Trophy and the M25 Series, both designed to encourage attendance at open meetings all over the country and to give you the opportunity to win lots of trophies (and accolades, of course).
The 2013 Vines Series is kindly sponsored by GJW Direct insurance (see link on the homepage). The first placed boat/helm in the series will win a suit of sails!
The events are:
Hamble Warming Pan March 16/17
Restronguet South Western Champinships , May 25-27
Itchenor Open June 29/30
West Oxfordshire open 11/12 May
Inland Championships, Rutland 9-10th November
As presented by the Vines Family in 1965. Positions in the series may be awarded to the helm (who may sail with different crews) or boat (2 sailors who sail together for all qualifying events). The overall results of each event will score as follows: 1 point = 1st, 2 point 2nd etc There will be no discards to the series (i.e. all events count) though individual events may discard races to score the event. An event not sailed by a competitor will score the average vines events entries plus 2. If all races in an event are cancelled or abandoned an additional event MAY be nominated, although this will not apply to the final event in the series (which is also the Inland championship)
M25 Series
A Helm or Boat (as defined above) can enter its best 8 race results from all events with 5 or more entrants. The series will be awarded to the boat with the most points, which are scoring as follows: a win scores no of entrants for that event, second scores no of entrants -1, third scores entrants -2 etc. A boat or helm does not have to complete a full event for the race result to be counted. In the event of fewer than 3 boats qualifying the number of races may be reduced. Events excluded are National Championships, South Western Championships and all Vines trophy events.
For an event to qualify and therefore its races for competitors the event organiser or nominated individual must email or send the overall results with individual race breakdown to the fixtures secretary. Failing to do so will exclude an event to qualify for the m25 series
If your club would be interested in holding an event in the future, be it a Championship, Open Meeting or Team Racing event then we would like to hear from you. Please contact our Fixtures Secretary.
We recommend that you contact the Fixtures Secretary or the club prior to travelling to these events. Check the discussion forums if you want to share a lift!
We look forward to seeing you in 2012!
