I have the original 1998 Measurement certificate for our firefly, but after last nationals was told the boat did not have a measurement certificate on file. Can some technically minded person tell me if this certificate is valid, or else if not how I go about getting a current certificate? Thanks, Rob

Hi Rob, if you have original Measurement Form (I think yellow) which has all the dimmensions on and looks like the back page of the rules. You need to fill in your details address, boat name etc and send to RYA with £25 to get a Measurment Certificate in your name. If got old certificate which shows previous owner name, address. Send back to RYA with £25 with your name, address club, boat name. Here is all the info: http://www.rya.org.uk/infoadvice/racing/equipmentclasses/measurement/Pages/measurementcertificates.aspx Cheers Will

I had a similar problem at last years Hamble nationals. In practice I was tols I was one of the only boats who actually bought the certificate to be seen by the entry officer... When I called the RYA it seems that they have been transferring records from manual to computer systems. If "the computer says no" it means that your registration document is still in the paper record because its been more than ten years since the boat was registered. (Or something like that.) The original Registration documents were a pink, A5 sized card, folded in half to a passport sized card, with space inside to have bouyancy tests signed and NFA stickers for each year. The "new" RYA document is an A5 size booklet, white and blue on the outside.

Hi Rob The scrutineers at the nationals will accept any valid measurement certificate whatever it's vintage, whether that be a new one, a re-issued one or an original one from 1963... If you don't have a measurement cert with you for your boat, for instance if it is an institution boat, then we can check with the RYA that one is 'on file'. We can do that now, or at any time prior to the end of the nationals. If by the end of the week we cannot verify the existence of a certificate then that boat's result won't stand The point is to ensure that each boat present has had it's building fees paid at manufacture and at one point in time at least it measured as a firefly. The rest of the scrutineering process ensures that certain points still measure and all the extra bits are the right length and of course that the boat still weighs in1! you shouldn't need to go to the RYA and get your certificate re issued just because it is too old to be on their computerised system - any valid certificate will do
